Let's reframe this difficult coronavirus lockdown period as an opportunity to create something different, more creative - more transformative!
We have all experienced loss, grief, loss of control, uncertainty, anxiety, depression during this pandemic YET to be honest these emotions were present BEFORE the lockdown. The additional stress and fear are pointing to something more elemental that is missing in our families’lives.
Now that our daily lives have been turned upside down, many of us are searching for a NEW way of being. Instead of always doing, doing, doing, we can simply be present.
Our number one priority should be the mental, emotional and physical well being of ourselves and our children.
Perhaps the pandemic offers us an opportunity to rebuild a sense of belonging and connection from the bottom up, starting with our children. Our sense of belonging grows not from holding on to an outdated paradigm of what is important in life but in engaging with one another - no matter how messy it can be.
Do we really want to go back to rushing around, stressed out and pushing our children to achieve and succeed at the expense of their emotional well-being?
What if we truly engage with one another, find the mutual connection that we need and hunger for as humans to truly survive. When we listen to one another - with a present heart, with curiosity, we create families of connection and joy. Isn’t that what we really desire?
